Gordie Nye
President & Chief Executive Officer
Gordie Nye has served as Chief Executive Officer of ZELTIQ&trade, since September 2009. Mr. Nye comes to the company with a 25-year track record of branding, new product development, and value creation across diverse industries – each of which relate to the company's commercial opportunity. He currently sits on the board of Systagenix Wound Management, Ltd., Aritech and REVA Medical.
Mr. Nye has served as angel investor, Director and CEO of REVA Medical, Inc., the developer of a novel bioresorbable coronary stent for the interventional cardiology market. REVA is currently in preclinical product development, backed by investors such as Medtronic and Domain Associates.
In 1998, Mr. Nye and colleagues at Group Outcome joined with Liberty Partners to acquire Critikon, the patient monitoring unit of Johnson & Johnson. He served as President and CEO and led a comprehensive product line overhaul. GE Medical Systems acquired Critikon in 2000, making Critikon's Dinamap monitors the centerpiece of GE's push into the sub-acute monitoring market. Mr. Nye was also President, CEO and Director of "A" Company, a premier brand in the orthodontic appliance market, which was later acquired by Sybron Dental Specialties. As with Critikon, he led a full-scale product overhaul which was highlighted by the launch of the Damon SL™, now the leading platform in the category.
Mr. Nye also brings a wealth of experience in the consumer products industry: he held a variety of marketing, sales and general management roles for companies including, Gillette, Olin Ski Company, Reebok and L.A. Gear.
Mr. Nye received his B.A. in English (Magna Cum Laude) and an M.B.A. in Marketing and General Management, both from Dartmouth College.
Jean George
Director
Jean George, General Partner of Advanced Technology Ventures, has been a member of the board of directors since its founding in 2005 and became Chairman in 2007. In addition to ZELTIQ, her representative investments include Acceleron Pharmaceuticals, Critical Therapeutics, Five Prime Therapeutics, Hydra Biosciences, Hypnion (acquired by Eli Lilly and Company), Portola, and Proteolix.
In 1998 Ms. George joined the venture capital community when she was appointed to lead BancBoston Ventures' life sciences investments. At BancBoston Ventures Ms. George led investments in Neurometrix, Microbia, NuGenesis Technologies (acquired by Waters), and Syntonix Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Biogen Idec). In addition to her extensive operating and investment background, she also spent six years working in chemistry and bioresearch.
Ms. George brings more than 20 years of biotechnology industry experience to ZELTIQ, including 10 years at Genzyme Corporation. At Genzyme, she held a variety of operational roles in marketing, product development and business development, including Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing and Vice President and Founder of Genzyme's Tissue Repair Division. Ms. George holds an M.B.A. from Simmons College Graduate School of Management and a B.S. from the University of Maine.
Nathan R. Every, M.D., MPH
Director
Nathan Every, of Frazier HealthCare Ventures, has been a member of the board of directors since its founding in 2005. In addition to ZELTIQ, Dr. Every currently serves on the boards of directors at Apneon, Inc., BaroSense, Inc., BARRX, Inc., FlowCardia, Inc., InnerPulse, Inc., MacuSight, PowerVision, Seattle Medical Technologies, and Xoft, Inc.
Dr. Every is a cardiologist who has been with Frazier since 1999 and became a General Partner in 2005. Prior to joining the Frazier Healthcare, Dr. Every was an associate professor of medicine and the director of the Cardiovascular Outcomes Research Center (CORC) at the University of Washington, where he performed multiple studies evaluating the costs and outcomes of new procedures and pharmaceutical agents. His findings have been published in more than 75 scientific articles, including The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA and The Lancet.
Dr. Every earned an M.D. from Emory University School of Medicine and a master of public health (M.P.H.) degree from the University of Washington School of Public Health, and he is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine.
Bryan Roberts
Director
Bryan Roberts, Managing General Partner of Venrock, became a member of the board of directors in 2008. In addition to ZELTIQ, his investments include XenoPort, Illumina, Sirna Therapeutics (acquired by Merck), Athenahealth, Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, Satiety and Ikaria.
Recently named to Forbes Magazine's Midas List as the top life sciences VC, Dr. Roberts joined Venrock as a Kauffman Fellow in 1997. Prior to his doctoral program, Dr. Roberts held corporate finance positions at Kidder, Peabody and Co. In 2006, Dr. Roberts was named a Henry Crown Fellow by the Aspen Institute.
Dr. Roberts earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry & Chemical Biology at Harvard University and his B.A. from Dartmouth College.
Mark Foley
Director
Mark Foley, Managing Director of RWI Ventures, joined ZELTIQ in 2009 as its Executive Chairman. In addition to his board role with ZELTIQ, Mr. Foley serves as Executive Chairman for Monterey Devices and led RWI's investments in BaroSense, Sonitus and Voyage Medical.
Prior to RWI Ventures, Mr. Foley spent 17 years in senior operating roles in both large and start-up medical device companies, most recently founding and serving as CEO of cardiac device maker, Ventrica, which was acquired by Medtronic in 2004. Before Ventrica, Mr. Foley worked for leading medical device companies Perclose (acquired by Abbott), Guidant, DVI (acquired by Eli Lilly) and US Surgical Corporation (acquired by Tyco). Because of his extensive operating experience, Mr. Foley has an intimate understanding of what it takes to make a start-up company successful and is able to partner with management teams to assist them in achieving their goals. As an example, Mr. Foley was the only institutional investor in the Series A financing for both Sonitus (Series B co-led by Novartis and Aberdere) and Voyage Medical (Series B co-led by Kleiner Perkins and Three Arch Partners), and was able to work closely with the management team to help them achieve their goals and complete successful Series B financings.
Mr. Foley received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.
Andrew Schiff, M.D.
Director
Andrew Schiff, Managing Partner of Aisling Capital, became a member of the ZELTIQ board of directors in July 2010. Dr. Schiff. Dr. Schiff joined Fund I in September of 1999 and has served as a Managing Partner since 2002. Prior to joining Fund I, Dr. Schiff practiced internal medicine at The New York Presbyterian Hospital where he maintains his position as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine.
Dr. Schiff currently serves as a director of ARMGO Pharma, Inc., Dynova Laboratories, Inc., Planet Technologies, Inc., Sirion Therapeutics, Inc., SkinMedica, Inc., and TransEnterix, Inc. Previously he served as a director of Adams Respiratory Therapeutics, Inc., ArgiNOx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Barrier Therapeutics, Inc., Bioenvision, Inc., Cempra Pharmaceuticals, Inc., CardioKine, Inc., and Myogen, Inc.
Dr. Schiff received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College, his M.B.A. from Columbia University, and his B.S. with honors in Neuroscience from Brown University.
Bob Stockman
Director
Bob Stockman, Chairman and CEO of REVA Medical, Inc., joined the board of directors of ZELTIQ in July 2010. He brings to the board 29 years of experience in the medical device industry, having initiated and exited three buyouts of medical device companies that included two Johnson & Johnson divisions, has been a founding principal in three medical device startups (InSound Medical, Inc., Centrimed, Inc., and REVA Medical, Inc.), and has led over $1 billion in medical device transactions as a former M&A specialist with Johnston Associates and Group Outcome LLC, boutique healthcare merchant banking firms.
Mr. Stockman is on the board of directors of Systagenix, Inc., Heartware, Inc., MuseAmi, Inc., and REVA Medical, Inc.
Mr. Stockman earned his M.B.A. from The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration and his A.B. from Harvard College.
